2017 Answers for Autism Family Fun Festival
September 16, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Due to some of our patron’s sensitivity needs, we ask that you leave your dogs at home. Service animals of course are welcome.
The weather forecast for Saturday looks amazing…and hot!
Please bring some water or other cool beverage for yourselves. We will have some water at the event at no cost – but we may run out. Our food vendors may have drinks to purchase as well.
Some quick information for you to better help enjoy your time at the Family Fun Event.
- Do I have to register for the event? Does it cost money to attend?
No, there is no registration required, and there is no fee to attend.
There will be items available to purchase if desired. Items sold by Answers for Autism can be purchased with cash, check, or credit card (Visa, MC, Discover, AmEx). Some of the other vendors may not take checks or credit cards.
- I hear there is road construction in Carmel. What are the best driving directions to Coxhall Gardens?
Yes, there is road construction at 116th and Towne Road, which also has some roads blocked in the park, so you cannot arrive at our event from the Towne Road entrance.
So the best way to arrive at the park is to use the back entrance from Hoover Road. Drive west on 116th Street from US 31 (Meridian). You can go past the Road Closed signs for local traffic. Turn right onto Hoover Road, and you will see the park on your left.
- Is there a schedule of events?
All of our activities will be available from 10 am to 2 pm. Festival t-shirts are available to purchase at our Welcome Center; each shirt costs $10. We have a limited amount of Youth Medium & Large, and Adult Medium, Large, X-Large, and 2X-Large sizes.
A new concept we have this year is our “Meet-Ups”. These sessions are designed for folks to meet others with similar focuses, and share information informally. Each session lasts 10-15 minutes, or as long as folks wish to discuss.
The meet up will be at the tables next to the food vendors, and under the shade.
Here are our discussion topics, and scheduled times.
10:15 am — IEP’s and 504 plans
11:00 am — Adults on the spectrum, diagnosing adults AND Newly diagnosed children
11:30 am — Sensory Processing Disorders (Changed from 12:00 pm)
12:00 pm — Transitioning to adulthood / skills and jobs (Changed from 11:30 am)
12:30 pm — Educators of People on the Autism Spectrum
We will also have a Yoga Class, starting at 12:15 pm, led by 12:15 YOGA class by Meredith Montgomery, courtesy of kOMpose Yoga. All ages and levels welcome! Please bring your own mat or beach towel. (a few extras will be available)
At 1:30 pm, to close our event, we will have our drawing for the Answers for Autism Quilts and then our Balloon Release.
- Will there be an actual walk?
No, we will not have a formal walk, but patrons of course are welcome to walk the path as in the past.
